As a child, my faith was so strong it was almost a “matter of fact.”

Even though it is not the truth of who I am, I share my story—my journey, unfolding, and experiences with the intention of inspiring and encouraging others in remembering who they are.

I grew up as a “PK.”

What’s a PK, you ask?

It stands for preacher’s kid (or pastor’s kid depending on whom you ask). My father was a Lutheran pastor, so every Sunday come rain or shine I was in church…and Sunday school…and then taught Sunday school later as a teenager…and attended private Lutheran schools throughout all of elementary school…and high school.

While my upbringing may seem extreme to some, I feel blessed to have been born into such a loving family who instilled a level of faith within me that was so strong it was almost a “matter of fact.”

Though I never questioned the actual existence of a higher power, there was a time in my college years when I felt completely disconnected. This was also my biggest spiritual turning point.

To this day I can vividly recall my last night of using alcohol to drown my feelings of separation, loneliness, and misery. I remember sitting on my bathroom floor after a late night of bar hopping; I was in tears because I was so unhappy with my life.

I thought to myself, “this isn’t me.”

I felt like I had hit rock bottom.

Yet, even though I was crying and felt disconnected, lost, and confused, something profound was happening within me. In that moment I felt an energy coming from deep inside that drew a hard line in the sand. I was no longer willing to put up with that level of pain and suffering.

My life changed after that night.

In 2003 I began exploring the world of meditation, yoga, and raw food veganism. This gentle unfolding over the years led me to the Tree of Life in Patagonia, Arizona in 2007 where for seven years I lived, worked, and studied personally under Rabbi Gabriel Cousens, M.D., a Self-realized being in the Nityananda lineage.

For me, my spiritual journey has been a process of deepening and expanding the wisdom I received from my Christian background.

One vivid childhood experience in particular helped me realize just how important it was for me to feel alive and connected in my heart.

It was a typical Sunday morning church service. My father was behind the pulpit and I was in one of the pews with my mother, my sister, and my brother.

We were singing “Joy to the World” and as a little kid looking for any way to be entertained during church, that was just the best song ever.

I was singing my little heart out. I was ecstatic…until I started to look around the room.

During church that Sunday I recall looking around at all the adults who were singing and I wondered to myself…

…”if everyone is talking to God, why do they all look so sad?”

That experience in church led me to deepen my own relationship with Spirit in a way that provided meaning for me on a personal level. I had no interest in an intellectual relationship with the Divine. I needed to feel it.

My deepest moments connection have come through experiencing the essence of not only Christianity, but many other philosophies and traditions, including Judaism, Ecstatic Kabbalah, Essene Healing, Tantra, and Taoism.

My somewhat unique journey has given me the experiential understanding that everyone’s spiritual path is uniquely theirs to walk. I truly believe there is no “wrong” way to go about knowing yourself as long as it is your authentic expression and it enhances your feeling of connection (and you’re not harming anyone in the process).

Since beginning my journey with Gabriel Cousens and the Tree of Life in 2007, I have gone through several years of intense spiritual training and continue to deepen my own awareness as a life-long student.

I am the founder of a unique form of sacred dance rooted in ecstatic Kabbalah and I serve as a spiritual teacher and mentor for spiritual aspirants around the world.

I lead meditation programs & workshops, answer spiritual questions, and offer individual spiritual mentorship for those who seek support in taking the next step on their spiritual path (if you’re interested, you can click here to find out more about working with me one-on-one).

Even with this background, the most intense training by far has been through serving as Gabriel Cousens’ personal assistant for many years. It has been one of the greatest blessings in my life.

  • I’ve always had an inclination to teach. When I was five years old I would come home from school and teach my three-year-old sister everything I learned that day. I’m pretty sure I had a solid hand in teaching her how to read.
  • I prefer green juice over coffee.
  • I was born on December 18th (Sagittarius sun, Capricorn moon, Scorpio rising).
  • I don’t own a television, but I love to watch cooking shows online…even though I eat a raw food vegan diet.
  • I was born with two teeth (for real).
  • The first book I read on meditation was Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn.
  • My laugh is loud, distinct, and genuinely contagious. It comes from my dad’s side of the family.
  • I love songs in minor keys.
  • I spent several years of my young adulthood distance running…at midnight…for hours…down dark country roads.
  • I grew up camping (“real” camping…like with tents, mosquitos, and peeing in the woods). For a week or two every summer my parents would pick a state park somewhere in the mid-west, pack up the car, and drive 14+ hours (straight through minus bathroom breaks) with three kids in the back seat just to meet up with some old friends and their kids, hang out in the woods, and do nothing. Those are some of the fondest memories of my childhood.
